Adoption application info - please read, it may help you

Sorry, but the NUMEROUS stupid applications we've gotten over the years has finally gotten on my last nerve...so, here's some advice:

1) The application is just that - an application to adopt. It's not a guarantee. We get many of these for each animal, usually, and can only approve one of them for each animal. If you aren't selected, but otherwise have a good application, we'll keep it on file for future approval.

2) We don't have time to respond to each person personally. It's not an attack on you, don't take it personally. If we need more info about your application, we'll contact you. You're welcome to contact us, but please realize that we are working full-time in addition to this, and may not be here to answer the phone, or return your e-mail.

3) Some people don't like that it's a long application. Some feel it's too nosy. If you don't like it, don't apply. I'm required by the state to have a paperwork trail for each animal. That's just how it is.

My primary goal is to place animals in excellent homes that have owners I can TRUST to tell me the truth about the animal, and to correspond with me for updates. If you don't want to hear from me again, then perhaps adoption isn't the best route for you. You may be an excellent home - don't take it personally. But if you can't be bothered with filling out the information, then how am I supposed to know that?

4) You must fill out your entire address. Applications sent with only the street name and number are usually discarded. We need the physical address, not a PO Box. I don't plan on visiting, but who knows??

5) Suggestion - SPELL CHECKER: This is a formal application. "IM speak" is not a language, and shows lack of maturity. Again, if you don't like it, read number 3 again above. I'm not judging you by a few misspellings here and there - don't get me wrong. But if you type as though you're 13 and in a chat room, I'm probably going to discard your application.

6) Yeah, I usually check references. Those spaces are there for a reason. Putting yourself down with a different e-mail address isn't a reference.

7) You will be required to sign an adoption contract. I suggest that you read a sample here. If you can't abide by these terms, don't apply.

8) I realize that most of you didn't need this advice, but I've gotten so tired of wading through crappy applications, I just had to put this here. Please be patient with me. I'm honestly not this bitchy most of the time!!

OK, I'm done ranting now... the application is here.
